Dr. Cobb, a general practitioner and surgeon served this community for a total span of about forty-nine
years. He served in the Army as a medical officer in France at the time the American Legion was born. A
constitution was established and the name "Hanniton Watts" was adopted.
Hanniton Watts, born in Mobile AL. on the 29th day of December 1919, he died in action defending his country.
His name was chosen because he was noted as the first serviceman in the local area to make the ultimate sacrifice
while serving during WWII.
American Legion Department, State of Florida, approved a temporary charter as a “Colored Post” on
July 22, 1946. It was during the Civil Rights Movement when Post 193 received its permanent charter on June 21, 1962.
In earlier years members met at each others homes, in 1971 the first Post Home was purchased and opened in 1982
we moved to current location.
